DynEfuel
Reversible power-to-X technology for the dynamic production of eFuels – DynEfuel
The ambition of the DynEfuel project is to construct, and field test a 0.15 MW pilot scale Power-to-X plant, which uses fluctuating power from a wind turbine to produce syngas optimised for methanol production.
Specifically, the project will construct a power converter system based on the patent design and topology developed and optimized for AC:DC operation. Construct a 0.15 MW submodule using commercially available stacks. Construction of a container-sized dynamic electrolysis unit. Design and test syngas production optimised for methanol production. Identify offshore operation requirements and implement into the design and operation strategies for the dynamic electrolyser unit. Cold commissioning of the system at Dynelectro’s test site. Full commissioning at an operational site for two months of dynamic operation.
The DynEfuel project will allow the consortium to obtain field data from an operational site which will be used to optimise the engineering and design for the subsequent development in the technology. The market requires MW to GW sized electrolysis systems for eFuel synthesis. The project integrates the results obtained in the DynAmmonia project and is a key part of improving the performance of MW-sized dynamic electrolysis units to the market.
The project activities will be used to develop the Dynamic Electrolyser Unit (DEU) technology to prepare for a subsequent 1 MW demonstration and to safely integrate the next part of the value chain, fuel synthesis, into the operation.
